Windows 7: Dual boot?

The prompt to install SATA drivers is F6 given when it is loading drivers at the very start.

You need to install SATA driver for your controller, which you will find on the manufacturer's support download page for your model, or by Googling your model for it.

If you don't have floppy support, then they need to be slipstreamed into XP disk:

You have "native sata" support enabled in your BIOS. First choice would be to simply disable it, after which everything should go as usual, except that supposedly it has small impact on the disk and battery performance. You can change it back after install.
Second choice would be to provide the drivers for the sata controller of your laptop, using F6 option during the early part of Windows XP installation. However, you will need internal or external floppy disc drive for that. Alternatively, you can slip stream the sata controller drivers to your Windows XP installation (not so hard as it may sound) using nLite software (it's free).

EVERY time I installed XP, I had to find and install the ethernet / network card drivers before I could use the Internet. I started keeping copies of the drivers.

Look at the Device Manager to find what network card you have, and Google for XP drivers.

This tutorial will show you one way to add XP to your boot manager:

Thought you were aware of the extra steps that are required to add XP last in the dual boot with 7, since you started this thread discussing these steps with me. See Robert's post above.

We don't have your system specs to google your model's product support download page, where most every computer has its drivers available for download. Download your ethernet adapter from there, or by googling the exact device name taken from the XP Device Manager, which is where you will then browse from to install the driver (or run it from your desktop).

Are you able to re-enable SATA in BIOS to get full performance, with no problems?

The first place to look is the manufacturer's web site. Look for a bios update, current chipset driver set, and/or hard drive utility. Install and update your computer.

On the Manufactuer's web site I was able to find Intel Serial ATA (SATA) Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) Controller Driver. but it says this is to be done when installing the OS. I already have my OS installed. Any way to do this now. Below is the link to the Manufactuer's web site.

Right click Computer>Manage>Device Manager and check for any yellow exclamation marks indicating a device in error. Then look specifically for the SATA controller device, click on it and see what driver is installed. You can unzip the driver and browse to it to try to install it if needed. It most likely won't be listed though since it is disabled in BIOS.

However, this driver is specifically provided to overcome the "no HDD found" error you got when installing XP. Instead you chose to disable SATA support so your installation could proceed. If you had hit F6 when prompted during the loading-drivers early phase of the XP install, you could have added this driver on a floppy or stick to support SATA. Install XP: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer

If you are concerned about not being able to re-enable SATA in your BIOS, then you might want to try a repair install of XP, booting from the CD and adding SATA driver when prompted via F6 then proceeding with an install to the point where it discovers an installation at which point you can choose Repair. (Repair install is not the first "click R for Repair" option). If it won't merge the driver in a XP repair install, then you would need to reinstall if you want to recover SATA-enabled in XP, and it won't take the driver in the Device Manager.

Others might have more informed suggestions as I am rusty on XP installs as I said.
