Should I upgrade my friends PC to Windows 7?

My friend has a HP pavilion dv5-1235dx entertainment notebook PC with windows vista home premium installed. It is the original software because it has the vista recovery partition along with the bloatware. I'm just wondering if I should upgrade to 7 for the sake of it being user-friendly and future updates, but I don't even know if it matters with all these update issues happening on Windows 7.

What do you all think I should do? Will there be any incompatibility issues with this model and Windows 7?

Since you will have to buy an OS to upgrade with, why not go to Windows 10? The End of support chart shows that to be the best bet.

It would have to be a Clean Install as there is no direct upgrade path from Vista to Windows 10.

I thought about that but i would think that 10 would go slow on this old laptop sadly.

Very weird too.. I just put in a windows 7 disc and it said terminal or some kind of error and it wouldnt load. I think its best if i just update vista to the latest updates since windows 7 cannot even be installed, and i dont want to configure anything in the bios either since im not certified in this stuff.

Sorry all, when i made this i had no idea that windows 7 wouldnt even be able to BOOT off the machine...

Vista is a good system, I would stay with that. You have no idea what brick walls you are going to hit when you try to upgrade.

But should you try to upgrade, make sure you have a good image of the Vista system so that you can easily backpaddle.

    Hi,
Not exactly sure why anyone wouldn't install win-7 :)
I got a taste of Vista lately and it's okay too but 7 has 4 more years of support.

Hey - what's not to like about the Vista motorcycle-style cpu/ram meters, pointless slideshow from My Pictures and the 'always 2 years out-of-date' news ticker thingy. See pic -

    Then there's the hidden shutdown button . . .

    Talk about hidden shutdown
Win-10 does the exact same thing
10 like Vista uses Hibernation by default
