Windows 7

Windows 7 Enterprise Evaluation copy was installed in my computer. I performed the steps below and had it "downgraded" to Windows 7 Ultimate retail.

1. Copy all the files from your Windows Professional installer.
2. Save them in a new folder and place it somewhere on your desktop.

While copying...
3. Go to Start > type in "regedit" and press Enter.
4. Save your current registry entries. (File > Export > give it a filename > Save)
5. From the registry editor window, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Windows NT > left click on CurrentVersion.
6. On the right-hand part of the window change the following: (NOTE: Edit ONLY the following)
EditionID : right click > Modify > change the value to Professional > OK
ProductName: right click > Modify > change the value to Windows 7 Professional > OK
7. Close registry editor.

Check the setup files being copied earlier. When it's done:
8. Open the folder in which you saved the setup files.
9. Open the folder named sources and look for the file ei.cfg.
10. You can either delete ei.old so installation will give you the option to upgrade or "downgrade" to Windows 7 various editions, or open ei.cfg with notepad and change EditionID to any edition (i.e. HomePremium, Professional, Ultimate).
11. Run setup from the copied setup files.

It might work in your scenario. But then again, Microsoft has a lot of mysteries. It could have been possible for me, but not for others.

Best of luck!

Windows 10 Pro X64

Zig, I will do that once i have the RTM Pro version installed and setup. Not much point with RC1.

Since I'm also going to the Pro version, I guess that's one more reason not to even try to force the upgrade.

Windows 7 Professional x86

There is a bios for this vote, since people who attend this vote are almost running Windows 7. People who like XP or Vista have less opportunity to vote if they are not running Windows 7 at the same time.
