    Upgrading to Windows 10

    Hi,
I would like to know about upgrading to windows 10 from windows 7 using the free upgrade.

My Question is this after the date expires on the 29th of July what happens to the users that need to do installations of windows 10 on new hardware such as hard drive upgrades, Virus attacks, or even system file corruption will there license still be excepted as they entered it Pre expiration or will they be requierd to purchase a windows 10 license.

Many thanks for any incite on this question.

New hardware should be treated in the same way as always -

OEM licences would need to be purchased for the new hardware, just like windows 7

Re-Installations of OEM onto the same hardware will use the new Digital Licence to activate automatically Retail packages should also re-activate on new hardware but will likely need a call to Microsoft (again as Now)

Activation Troubleshooter - Use in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Starting with Windows 10 Anniversary Update and Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14371, you can link your Microsoft account (MSA) to the Windows 10 digital license (formerly called digital entitlement) on your device. This can help you reactivate Windows using the Activation troubleshooter if you make a hardware change later, such as replacing the motherboard.
