    Upgrade Key not Accepted

After installing my 7 pro os when I enter the key I get msg that key is valid for upgrade only and not accepted. Maybe I'm using wrong key but none on the disc or the package that came from MS or it's package. Is there anywhere in the files on the disc that the key would be listed or someway to find/get it, thanks.

The easiest thing to try would be option 3 of this tutorial,

Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

If that doesn't work one of the other methods should.

Glad to hear it, you're welcome. :)

No you can't upgrade 32bit to 64bit, you have to clean install.

The same key should work for either though.

Highly probable that you would, but I've never known that "option 3" to fail, as in that tutorial.

I have a 7 upgrade key and in my experience upgrade keys don't automatically activate after a clean install. There is a registry hack but that hasn't worked for me. Sometimes the activation assistance help but sometimes they don't. The best thing for me to do is to install Vista and then perform an upgrade install. Perhaps you should do the same. Before you can upgrade Vista you have to have sp1 installed. If you are using an XP key to perform the upgrade then all you need to do is call the activation assistance line and tell them that you are upgrading XP. They should then help you because they know that you can't perform an upgrade install on XP.

Since it's a clean install, you most likely will.

The "registry hack" option did work for them though.
