    Download windows 7 iso

    Hi there

I have decided to install windows 7 on my windows 10 machine, I have a windows 7 retail disk and licence that has not been used on any machine in the past few years, but was a pre service pack one disc.

I went to the Microsoft site to download a ISO with SP1 already installed, when entering my key code it said i was entitled to

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 COEM GGK

the problem I have is that this is definitely a full retail disk and as I understand it the license they think I have is OEM, can anyone shed any light on this ?

I believe that all you have to do is to install your windows 7 retail disk with licence on your desktop. Then will get the update of Windows 7 SP1 through Windows Update. Can anyone confirm this if I am wrong about this.

    Hi John

Yes I understand that, i do actually have SP1 for windows 7, the only reason I downloaded a ISO was to save time
My question really is about the license issue.

That's true Andy with saving time to do to install Windows 7 SP-1 not the other way with Windows 7 then get the update of SP-1 from Windows Update. I believe that there are two different licences between Windows 7 and Windows 7 SP-1 but I could be wrong.

    Hi Andy,
Sorry mate thats not a Retail licence.
Its a System Builder Licence - supported by MS, if you look at the COA sticker you will see microsoft as the vender.
thats why you got the COEM GGK link.

You can use either Retail or OEM disks to install Windows 7.

    https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/techno...-download-tool

This new tool allows an easy and comfortable way to download genuine Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, as well as Office 2007, 2010 and 2011 disk images (ISO) directly from Microsoft's servers.

Yes a retail disc and an oem disc are the same exact thing, it doesn`t matter, don`t worry about a thing.

As long as you`ve downloaded the W7 iso with SP1 you are good to go. And now, with all the W10 updates gone, it`s a joy to install W7 again

They are/were only 2 differences between Retail and OEM

    1) With a Retail disc you would get 365 days of support from Microsoft

    2) With an OEM disc/install you would get support from the computer manufacturer, not Microsoft

But if you bought an OEM disc yourself, from a vendor like Newegg, you wouldn`t get free support from anyone, but who needs it :)

There are no differences in the license, the same key will work on either one, but there is no reason to use a non SP1 installer.

    Hi Roy

This was a full retail license and has been used on 3 different builds already and activated with no problems.
The only reason I wanted to download an ISO was to avoid the install of a SP1 (which i have as a stand alone installer) I'm just wondering how when i entered the code in to downloaded the iSO it got changed to COEM, maybe it does not really matter not sure.

    Hi,
Why are you wanting to use a stand alone sp1 installer when there is iso with sp1 on it already
