    Windows 7 Starter iso

    hi Folks,

    I hope someone can help with this.

    The HDD on my daughter's EeePC netbook (Windows 7 Starter) has failed.

    Is there anywhere I can get an iso image of Windows 7 Starter to rebuild her netbook after the installation of a new HDD?

    Cheers

    Zaph

    EDIT: Found a link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...nload/windows7

    EDIT 2:
    Error

    The product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options.

    Anyone know of a location for a legitimate Windows 7 Starter iso?

    Cheers

    This link is from Microsoft, it`s Windows Starter Service Pack 1 32 Bit, and the link will last for 24 hours.

    You should install a SSD instead of a HDD. HDDs are very sensitive to impacts and that is what happens more frequently on portables.

    Thanks for the link AddRAM

    I have now got copies of Win 7 Starter and Win 7 Home Premium (both 32 and 64-bit).

    @Mega

    I didn't immediately think of popping an SSD in (given that the last time I looked they were VERY expensive). However, as with everything, the price has now dropped.

    I placed the order for a Toshiba 500Gb HDD then thought about an SSD and then looked at the prices.

    In the UK from Scan, a 120Gb Sandisk HDD is £36

    Should have ordered a SSD *sigh*

    Zaph, I don't know how big is the requirements for your daughter netbook, but a SSD worth any £ spent on it.
    It's 6x faster than a HDD and as it doesn't have moving parts it's ideal for portables, and as energy consumption is much lower it gives more time on battery.

    Backup the activation first. SEE HERE

    Also backup the drivers.

    Keep those somewehere safe, e.g. a usb stick.

    You can use any official ms 32 bit windows7 iso file. Best to get one with sp1 already included.

    Any one of these will do :

    en_windows_7_ultimate_with_sp1_x86_dvd_u_677460.iso = X17-59463.iso

    en_windows_7_professional_with_sp1_x86_dvd_u_677056.iso = X17-59183.iso

    en_windows_7_home_premium_with_sp1_x86_dvd_u_676701 = X17-58996.iso

    en_windows_7_home_basic_with_sp1_x86_dvd_u_676470.iso

    en_windows_7_starter_with_sp1_x86_dvd_u_678562.iso

    That is because all the ms iso files have ALL the editions. The 32 bit ultimate iso file contains these editions:

    1. Starter
    2. Home Basic
    3. Home Premium
    4. Professional
    5. Ultimate

    You can extract any of the ms iso files to usb. Then delete the sources\eicfg file. ALL editions will then be available.

    If you use the sticker key you will have a online activation. If you backup the current activation (SLP license) and then use on the new installation it will be a offline activation. My suggestion is to follow SIW2 advice.
