    Clean install/Can't get IE 8 to update!

    Would appreciate some help!

    Did a clean istall of Windows 7 Starter on a friend's Acer One Aspire. The OS was succssfully installed and activated and it is genuine. Trying to upgrade IE 8 to IE 10 or 11. When using IE, in most instances, it keeps giving a message that the browser is outdated.

    Have tried to download IE 10, and it mentions a "Delay Start", and the download never shows up anywhere, even though it says 'Thank you for downloading'.
    IE 11 does not mention the "Delay Start", but the download never shows up either, and it also gives thanks for downloading.

    Also trying to download Windows Updates, and that has turned into a hair-graying experience.
    However, will go one at a time, and start with upgrading IE 8.

    Thanks for your assistance!

    Did you try to install Firefox or Chome to see if you can download?
    For the updates:
    KB3125574 contains all the security and non-security fixes released since the release of Windows 7 SP1 that are suitable for general distribution, up through April 2016.
    It’s single, Multi language, 488MB update file (msu). On a recent installation, you must have first to install KB3020369.

    Thanks for the replies!!

    @Megahertz07:

    Working on it, but getting a bunch of failed update installs, and unexpected shutdowns.

    @ThrashZone

    Followed the same install process, but, the result has not been good.

    Guess Windows 7 Starter is a very different Windows 7. Have no clue what is going wrong.

    Yep, and only 1GB RAM with no prospect of upgrading.

    Thinking about installing an Android (Lollipop). The machine might be good for that.
    Have installed Linux distros before, but not an Android OS.

    Well, the Android install struck out. Got to the menu with choices to use Lollipop from the UBB, and then it froze. Tried again, same thing.

    Back to W7Starter. After a couple of tries, Checking for updates got 218 to install.
    Now, it is stuck at Installing update 176 of 218. Went at it since last night at about 11:00PM, so that is more than 10 hours, and it has been stuck for at least 5 hours...

    Guess will have to wait it out.

    Hi,
    As long as you install KB3020369 & KB3172605 first you should be able to install 50 or so Important updates at a time until it's completed.

    Thanks, TrashZone!

    I think I have KB3020369 & KB3172605 installed. At first I tried to install about 40 updates, and that did not work. The system froze, got a black screen, etc.

    So, next go around went for the whole thing. Still stuck at 176 of 218, though.
