    Clean Wndows 7 reinstall

Computer people at store told me OS was corrupted, perhaps due to power issues we had. I purchased a new HDD and reinstall from original W7 Disck. Only get to screen 9. then monitor goes black and nothing further. Been sitting like that for over 24 hours. Is this normal? I already attempted install from disk twice, but same result. Should I let it continue to run, or reboot and start again? Just not getting to screen shot 10 or 11 on the install turtorial. Please advise on my next steps.

I don't get the screen "set up preparing for first use" Monitor goes to sleep mode and nothing happens.

No it`s not normal, windows takes 15 minutes or less to install.

Either it`s something in your bios settings or your disc.

I would create a new installer.

Hi MCT, welcome to the forum.
It can be that you have a kind of hardware failure.
Can you explain "OS was corrupted, perhaps due to power issues we had"?
What kind of problems you were having to have a diagnostic of "OS was corrupted"?
What kind of power issues you had?
What is your Win 7 installation disk, a retail from MS or a OEM from Dell?

    Hi and welcome to SeveForums,
What size hdd was purchased ?

Did you clean the hdd after the first failed attempt to install windows with I believe Drive options where it shows where you want to install windows on ?

iso are easy to get as AddRam posted try it and use a flash drive and option 2 here,
USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

You might also download to a flash drive KB3020369 & KB3125574 & KB3172605 it will save a lot of time updating win-7 if the issues is resolved installing.

    KB3020369 & KB3172605 & KB3125574 from the catalog
    Microsoft Update Catalog

I have all three updates needed on my OneDrive too if you can't or don't want to deal with the catalog

    Issue Discovered - I think

Power outage was thunderstorm. Unit connected to protected electrical strip. All other computers unaffected. Lost the PSU. Replaced. Took out old HDD because it has my data that I need. )WDC back up not working correctly, so lots of data are missing - couldn't be worse timing). Replaced with WD Blue. Ran original W7 disk. Got so far as described. Ran diagnostics and error for DVD RAM at 0147, spind test fail. Which I guess is why it only goes so far before spindle stops.

I did not wipe out older install attempts. Don't know how to. I am a neebie, and cheap, and sometimes my wife cals me ......

I was going to load the disc or download onto a memorex portable HDD, then reinstall like that. Although I will remain with the problem of a bad DVD optical. Which I occassionally need.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I will read through them in more detail.

    To Mega

W7 was OEM Dell installed. Computer didn't start, so took to Micro Center in Paterson, NJ. They ran diagnostic and told me that the OS was corrupted. Preior to elefctrical event, PSU went out; replaced that, but W& would not start. I need the data on my HDD, so that is why I swapped it out cause I cannot get it erased by accident. Make sense? I don't know what button to push.

    Hi,
Image 6 & 7 & 8 should show the drive options to clean/ Format the new hdd or at show if there were other partitions already on it from the past attempted install.
A new hdd would only show a single listing I would imagine.
    Clean Install Windows 7

All the WD Blue series I've seen are 5400 rpm.

    By Pass Bad DVD

I found a standalone DVD in the myraid of boxes of computer stuff and cables and such, and started OS install from there with USB plug in to by pass the bad DVD reader with code 0147, spindle test failure. So far so good.

Thanks again for your input and counsel. I will let you know if I experience any more problems.

    Hi,
Just make sure the installation media has sp1 already on it
It is a pain to install sp1 after so long plus new media is too easy to get :)
