    You can use this if you need a GUI to mount the wims and install the drivers

    Dism++10.1.7.5HFull.zip

    Since I have no OS and am trying to make a workable installation disk I need to know that stuff before I can even start the machine.
    I'm running in circles here.
    I might be able to cobble up boot media that would do the job. Take a while to upload it, though.

    I certainly appreciate any help. I get frustrated when I spend a lot of time and don't seem to get anywhere. I did not expect a xeon workstation to be that much hassle compared to a "normal" windows machine like my i7, AMD quad etc.

    What is this? I downloaded but don't know what it does or how since info is all chinese. It is an exe which won't run on target machine without an OS first.

    I've made a tutorial to install drivers to the Win 7 installation disk. Even if you don't use it, you can learn about how Win installation disk work.
    It uses Dism of Win 7. Create a Windows 7 USB flash installation with new drives for new MB's
    Siw did it with a graphics interface.

    [solved]

    After all the kind advice and frustration on my part I decided to just go on instinct from prior experience with more conventional machines.

    I decided to ignore all the drivers, links and other suggestions and make one change to BIOS to ATA not the suggested AHCI. Ignored all drivers and put the win7 install disk in.

    Installation went without a hitch and never needed any of the drivers I downloaded.

    Only minor hitch after install was that I had to use F12 boot menu to start system. Found that this machine listed the drive twice, once as the long WD serial number and again just as "default SATA drive" When I went back to BIOS and moved "default drive" up it now starts on that drive without any issues.

    Thanks.
