Sysprep - Account does not display at login

    1. I got a new mobo, cpu and RAM.
    2. Did a sysprep (OOBE, Generalized, shutdown) on old hard drive.
    3. When I put the old hard drive into new hardware and booted, I got this error:

"Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume reconfiguration, restart the computer"

    4. I followed these instructions How to fix How-tos

    5. When I finished the steps and restarted computer, my original account from before sysprep is not displayed on the login screen. There are 2 accounts that are displayed, one is the account I was prompted to make when doing sysprep, and the 2nd is an account that has the same name as my original but when I log into it none of my setting are kept, and none of my data is accessible, all the files are empty.

    6. When I go into C:\Users, there are 4 accounts displayed. 1 is my original account, 2 is the account Im currently logged into which has the same name as the original but no files or settings, 3 is public, 4 is the account sysprep prompted me to create.

    7. I booted off my SSD (different hard drive) with my old hard drive as a 2nd, and ALL data is still accessible, none of it has been corrupted.

How can I log into my original account from my old hard drive, even though it is not displayed on the login screen when I boot from it. Also why is this happening? My goal is to be able to boot from old hard drive and use my comp exactly how it was before I switched hardware.

Notes: I have an image of my old hard drive backed up on external

It`s always best to do a clean install on a new system, you will have nothing but problems carrying over a windows install from another system.

What board and cpu did you have and what board and cpu do you have now ?

And you should seriously consider installing windows on a new ssd and just use the hard drive for storage.

And wow they just dropped the price on the 850 Pro to $119.99 :) But only until the 29th, I`d jump on it.

    Welcome to the Forum.

AddRam is 100% right. Clean install is always the right thing to do.
New MB has USB 3.x and SATA that requires new drivers that are not on the Win 7 installation disk.

You have no idea how a SSD will improve the performance of your computer.
I have a 120G SSD with windows 7 (80G) and Linux (40G) and there is still a lot of space.
And for data, I use a HDD.
