Clean install of a Windows 7 Pro OEM on a second hand workstation

    Hi,

I bought a second hand HP Workstation.

I am going to mess with the partitions and hard drive setup a little, maybe upgrade some drives, so I need an installation media for Windows 7 Pro.

The builder in System Information is set to the name of the seller.

There is no recovery partition; the system did not ask for me to create recovery media at the first startup; there is no program installed to create such media.

The closest that I have is in Maintenance / Create recovery disk. This makes a bootable DVD that can fix the ws in case of problems, and possibly allow me to go back to a previous state, but this is definitely not a way to make a clean install.

The seller told me that the ISO should be created from the actual running system.

How do you interpret that ? I think he means that I should keep a restore point somewhere and restore the system to that state if I need, but this is definitely not what I had in mind.

Is it a Win 7 + HP installation? (does it has a HP logo when you boot or on computer properties?)
Is it activated on computer properties?

Do you have a COA key stick no the workstation case?
If you do have a COA key you can download a Win 7 pro oem with the Iso down loader from here:
    https://www.heidoc.net/php/Windows%2...Downloader.exe
Run the down loader, choose Win 7 and on the options select win 7 pro OEM to download the iso.
Burn a DVD or use Rufus Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way to install on a USB flash disk.
Use the COA key to activate.

    It is activated, and the product ID contains OEM : ... - OEM - ....... - .....

There is no COA key sticker.
When I turn the computer on, I have a HP logo, but from within Windows, I don't know exactly what you mean by "Win 7 + HP installation?"

On the workstation itself, there are a few stickers related to HP; there are serial numbers and product numbers, but I believe this was only relevant when it was under HP guarantee.

So I have a feeling it won't be easy to get a legal OEM iso version of Windows 7 Pro for this one, even thought I paid for it. I am not paranoid, but I would rather install Windows myself from an ISO image with a known SHA1. There was no bloatware installed on this one, there was a few programs like VLC and LibreOffice, but I have no reason to trust the seller 100%. The hardware is in excellent condition, but I want to take care of the software part myself..

On the few stickers, there is no one with the key (38C2T- xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-Q9GX2)?
You don't need to buy the OEM iso version of Windows 7 Pro. Just download the down loader I gave you (It's official MS) and Burn a DVD or use Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way to install on a USB flash disk.

OK Thank you. I will give an update when the process is over.
Should I extract the serial number from my current Windows 7 Pro installation ? I definitely don't have it on a sticker on the workstation case.

    Hi,
Are you saying there is no activation sticker on the machine like this

The installer might not install a system reserved partition if cleaning the entire drive and only having one partition
    Clean Install Windows 7

Or at least that has been my experience
I'd usually have to create one partition say 100gb's on the hdd or sdd to point the installer too for it to create the 100mb system reserved partition too which I would usually not want anyway or format it as gpt and not mbr which again I have no need for gpt either
SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

If you get to updating a clean install you might review this for the 2-3 needed update to manually install to get the update system working on post #2 below
    windows update

No there is no such sticker right now. The only stickers are HP related (like P/N or S/N of the workstation)
I will tell you if that aforementioned ISO image of Windows 7 Pro accepts to install on my workstation. I will definitely do some changes on the drives, but the CPUs and motherboard are there to stay.

    Edit:

My Windows 7 Pro activation number is the "6P6GT" that appears on this page:

    OEM Licensing question.

It looks like it is a generic key used for all HP products. I hope there won't be any poroblemc because I didn't buy this ws to tinker with it for weeks, but to work.. Anyway..

Have you seen if the COA sticker isn't inside the case?
