    what to do now? SLOW

I'm very disappointed with the results of Windows 7 and am wondering if it has to do with my installation.

Before I did the upgrade, I decided to wipe everything clean and install a fresh Windows Vista and did all the updates (this took forever with SP1 and SP2). Don't ask me why I decided to do this, in my head I thought this would be the best option for a fresh install before windows 7. I didn't realize until after reading this forum that the "custom" install would have been a clean install of 7 for me. I then installed 7 via the "upgrade" option.

My results? My PC now feels slower than it did with Vista. I'm NOT happy and I have a feeling I would have been better off doing a "custom" installation allowing a clean install of 7.

I tried doing a clean install with 7 currently on my system by booting from the windows 7 DVD. It doesn't offer a "custom" installation anymore since 7 is already on my system.

So here's the question.... would I be better off reinstalling Vista and then doing a clean install of 7 via the "custom" installation option?

    System Specs:
    Dell XPS 720
    Q6600
    nvidia 8800 GTS
    2gb ram

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

Yes, you would be ALOT better off doing a clean install.

But, I'm not sure why your not getting the custom install option with your W7 DVD.

I myself did a clean install yesterday over my W7, and i did have such an option.

Where did you obtain the DVD?

You're right! Right after I posted here I decided to try to boot from the CD again. For some reason I thought on the initial install page it gave the option of what type of installation. I went a step or two further into it and did a custom install. Not only was it quick, but so far I've seen a very nice improvement!

After I get all of my apps installed again and have been using it for a day or two I'll report back. Hopefully I'll be pleased with the speed over Vista now!

Thanks again and sorry for jumping the gun on the post.
