Booting from CD not possible / alternatives?

    Hello dear community,

My laptop is in an awful state and I need to reinstall my OS.

I am currently with uninstalled product key and 2 instances of the OS on two partitions of my hard drive.
This was probably a mistake, but I won't get into details here.

I want to reinstall and freshen up a bit the old machine, because I need to start using my audio (DAW) software with maximum performance, urgently.

Currently, booting my physical CD of Windows is not possible. Either I have issues with my disk reading device or it is worse. It just takes around 10 minutes to be able to right click on my DVD drive - Screenshot by Lightshot

What are my alternatives to use my genuine copy reinstalled on the same PC?
Will it work if I make an image (.iso) of the CD to another computer and load it in a USB flash drive to proceed?

    Please advise.

    Thank you in advance.

It should work; please let us know if any problems making the ISO, installing its contents onto the USB flash drive. Many have done that with success.

You'll need software to make the flash drive bootable. Rufus is very popular for that.

It might be simpler to just download a fresh Iso file

Here is the Microsoft link to download Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64 English
