no bootable device detected..press any key not support booting to disk

Hi all, As my first post on this forum but regularly I read your posts over the years to help me out sometimes, thanks.

Ok here is my crisis of the day. Which i am stuck on scratching my head as we speak.

    Acer aspire 5742 Model Name: AS5742|Part Number: LX.R4F02.459. 4GB ram, i3 cpu
(It has the blue windows 7 sticker on it) and an original product key for windows 7 sticker underneath.

Windows 7 home premium 64bit. Hard drive 750gb failed.

    Got a new 640GB and a 2nd hand 500gb as a spare.

Installed the 640gb and a message comes up when choosing the location to install windows 7.

"This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computers BIOs menu."

Ok so this Acer has the InsydeH20 bios and the only option is UHCI or IDE. The error comes up in both instances.

So I installed windows anyway all went well boot into the desktop downloaded several updates then restarted.

"no bootable device detected.......press any key"

tried changing the HDD to first boot device and set the Sata mode to IDE and UHCI but same message.

tried installing windows 10 on a separate partition and created a duel boot environment but still same neither operating system can boot. No bootable device detected. used BCDedit program.

created a minitool partion wizard boot disk. Botting from this and choosing then choosing boot from local disk bring up the duel boot and I can load either OS. Tried this with just windows 7 too same result.

Tried setting the partition as active using DISKPART.

tried bootrec/ rebuildBCD deleting and recreating the boot files.

tried another hard disk same results.

Tried downloading windows 7 sata drivers from acer for this model and tried adding them during installation windows 7 but just says no compatible drivers available.

Tried updating the bios to latest version 1.30 for this model.

tried installing from a different windows 7 home premium 64bit oem dvd disk. I now have duel boot windows 7 and windows 7.

if i leave the oem windows 7 dvd in the drive and after waiting for the press any key to boot from disk....... it times out then gives me the option to boot from windows 7 or windows 7. loads to desktop.
No dvd in the drive i get the dreaded "no bootable device detected.......press any key"

I may of tried other things but thats all i can remember at the moment. any help and i will be most appreciative. maybe a fresh perspective is needed as its giving me a headache now.

    many thanks.

    Hi Ok,

In the end the way around the problem was to install windows 10 on another laptop and then move the hard disk into the Acer this somehow worked and boots fine.
I think maybe this Acer has a Uefi bios but i couldnt find a menu for it. installing from DVD or USB seems to be blocked.

So going to mark my problem as Solved.
