    Hi bawldiggle,

That report tells me its using a COA sticker code key.
The W7 SLIC table is present, it also confirms that it was W8 originally downgraded to W7.
Note i believe that comp would have auto activated with the factory installed key
237XB-GDJ7B-MV8MH-98QJM-24367 which should be on your list

Just appears not to connecting to the windows server, is it connected to the web.

IT IS NOT GENERIC, its for and from a
    LENOVO 20C600BVAU

As you have a Digital River Phantom SP2 ISO, Pro hopefully, and it will be bloatware free
I would just go ahead and do a clean install.

During the install SKIP the product key installation, as i said previously im pretty sure it will self-activate.

Then goto that models driver page at Lenovo install ONLY the system updater, for your drivers
suspect that its got USB3 ports they wont be on the ISO. AND likely thats why USB3 devices did not show up.

    @ torchwood :)

237XB-GDJ7B-MV8MH-98QJM-24367 which should be on your list
When I get to the point of activation would I have to enter the 237XB-GDJ7B-MV8MH-98QJM-24367 string. ?

Just appears not to connecting to the windows server, is it connected to the web?.
No not yet, machine does no have any AV.

IT IS NOT GENERIC, its for and from a
    LENOVO 20C600BVAU
    Is that a Lenovo-with-bloatware version ?
    I have not a clue what a "LENOVO 20C600BVAU" is ?
    - AU = Australia? ... a batch of OEMS preloaded by Lenovo Australia ?

Digital River Phantom SP2 ISO, Pro
The ISOs I have are all 32bit, save one Enterprise Evaluation 64-bit.
For memory only Ultimate can be modified (in its ISO form) to be all editions ?

Only today I have found some leads to Digital River files.
On this (wife's) PC it takes about 5 hours to downlaod 3GB she is on WiFi, my laptop is on LAN.
With a very long patch cable to wife's rig I will download the Win-7 PRO x6 (media update) version tonight
    and check the hash-code.
I have had to be a "defective" tracking this stuff down, I just hope the hash-code ok's the download.
Is there any way of calculating the ISO via the URL ? (something like VirusTotal does , I think ?)

No sign of "torchwood" after my post #182
    - or am I looking in the wrong place ? PM me if I am not looking in the right place

The Lenovo has 2x usb3 and 1x usb2 ports. And they are not coloured to indicate either.
    Another lesson in buying PCs

What you mean with "Results of MGADiag based on (generic?) non-Lenovo Win-7 PRO x64 OS"?
Was MGADiag results (posted ) from your Lenovo or from another computer?

    Hi Russell,
your comps complete version name is
Lenovo Thinkpad E540 model type 20C600BVAU,
(you need the type to get the correct drivers)

As and when you have downloaded the OS, Heidoc is my site of choice.
Change your Bios to boot from CD first
Format your HDD/SSD's as i believe your cloning efforts have corrupted it/them
perform the clean install on your >>smaller<< SSD. with NO other devices attached
DO NOT INPUT YOUR PRODUCT KEY (SKIP/NEXT on that screen)
update the drivers, install all your programs THEN
IMAGE not clone the completed install

your usb3 ports sholud have blue borders/inners

    Roy

Mega, i believe he's quoting generic non Lenovo as the install was done in the repair shop with commercial bloatware. the resullts are from the Lenovo see above

What you mean with "Results of MGADiag based on (generic?) non-Lenovo Win-7 PRO x64 OS"?
My Lenovo has a non-Lenovo OS installed (no Lenovo extras and features)
    Read post #1

Was MGADiag results (posted ) from your Lenovo or from another computer?
I have 7 PCs, only two of them have internet connection, the other 5 are for AutoCad and by contracts cannot have web connection.

The MGADiag report was created on the problem Lenovo laptop, it does not have internet connection yet.
I "posted" the report from the only PC with Internet connection ... ! That is what USB devices are for.

I am not as foolish as to create a MGSDig report for the wrong PC

    Hi Roy (torchwood) :)
you are ahead of me (a psychic) well timed :)

your comps complete version name is
Lenovo Thinkpad E540 model type 20C600BVAU,
(you need the type to get the correct drivers)
Thank you, drivers have been in the back of my mind

As and when you have downloaded the OS, Heidoc is my site of choice.
Heidoc will not supply an ISO for OEM and I don't have a retail version to qualify for an ISO from Heidoc
Heidoc redirect me to the machine vendor (Lenovo) and Lenovo do not support failed recovery discs.

But I have located an original Digital River Win-7 PRO x64 (meda update) ISO.
    - downloaded and hash codes are a match (SHA1 and MD5) file name: X17-59186.iso

Change your Bios to boot from CD first
My boot window states to use "Enter" to access BIOS, it is actually "F12".
(another chore to fix in another thread)
I have used bootable MiniTools to simplify the existing HDD OS to a single partition.

Format your HDD/SSD's as i believe your cloning efforts have corrupted it
I removed all partitions on the spare HDD (with AOMEI Partition Assistant PRO); then reformatted the HDD
... then perform the clean install on your >>smaller<< SSD. with NO other devices attached
DO NOT INPUT YOUR PRODUCT KEY (SKIP/NEXT on that screen)
Thank you for this advice, it is where I am not very confidant.
... update the drivers, install all your programs THEN ... IMAGE not clone the completed install
If I get stuck with drivers I will give you a call
...your usb3 ports should have blue borders/inners
Lenovo must have shares in the black plastic market. All USB ports are "black"
Only this week I finally tracked down which ports are USB3 and USB2.
A bad design decision by Lenovo

I do appreciate your help and staying with me
    Thank you

"I am not as foolish as to create a MGSDig report for the wrong PC"
I'm sorry, that came to my mind. You have no idea what I've seen on the Forum. Sorry.

If the PC came with Win 7 it's possible that you have a Factory recover partition of Win 7.
Normally you can launch it from inside Windows or from BIOS.
Did you try to launch it from BIOS?

post #7 Lenovo only allow one attempt at making a Recovery disc and then the wizard wipes Recover Partition
Now I cannot find those disks.

Wisdom after the fact is like 20/20 hindsight.

Normally you can launch it from inside Windows or from BIOS.
Did you try to launch it from BIOS?
I did not know recovery can be be booted from BIOS
post #1 ... Jun-2017 local PC Shop installed non Lenovo Win-7 PRO x64
From I assume an ISO file No recovery partition

There is no hope of using recovery, it is long gone. Lenovo are not interested in any support
only to offer Win-10 (for a fee) and I would still get all the Lenovo bloatware again.
In the past I had an Acer Vista Laptop that was woefully slow, downgraded to non-Acer XP.
End of vendor bloat and it served me well for about 3 years.

This whole execise is to ...
    1. learn something about maintaining my PCs
    2. divorce my dependance of commercial $$ IT techicians.
    3. take more responsability for all my machines health
    4. the satisfaction of learning something new
    5. get my Lenovo working again
