Returning to 7

The museum that I volunteer at runs some pretty old programs in its archives. Windows 7 32 runs the programs fine, but Windows 10 has numerous problems.
Another volunteer has just donated his old pc, a Gigabyte motherboard with all solid capacitors, so reliable, I hope. It had W7 on it until last year when he upgraded it to W10. After donating it, he hasn't been able to find the W7 disc with it's product key.
I went on the Microsoft W7 ISO download site, but they require a product key. I have a W7 product key for one of my pc's which now runs W10, can I use that to obtain the ISO of 7, or will that get me in trouble with Microsoft?
Last year, I changed one of my pc's from 10 to 7 and donated that, I don't remember quite how I did it.
Also, even with a W7 disc, can the change be made without the product key?

It will tell you to contact the pc manufacturer to obtain recovery discs/media.

You need a Retail or System Builders key to download an Iso file from that site.

But look here.

Operating Systems

And No, you would not get in trouble, you are just trying to download an Iso file.

But, without a key, you won`t be able to activate Windows 7.

Windows 7 HP 64

Can you give us the details of the PC?
Is it a Home build or brought from a small manufacturer? Did you opened the computer to see if the COA sticker isn't inside?

Returning from Windows 8
I gave Windows 8 CR a thorough run and have decided to return to Windows 7. While many users find all kinds of things wrong with Windows 8 I find it pretty much the same as Windows 7 for my applications of website development, newsletter editing and various spreadsheet projects. True, there is a...

Returning to Windows after mac
Hi, I am a returning windows user after using mac for a few years. Mac was great, stable and no virus problems, but now I'm seeing that the benefits are outweighed by the cons - mostly being a part of apple's empire. Lack of gaming ability, hardware upgrade, issues with mac support in...
