    Windows 7 installation won't start

So I'm trying to do a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium. When I boot from the installation disc, I get the "Windows is loading files..." the progress bar completes, and the I get the "Starting Windows" screen. But it stops there. I've let it sit for over an hour, and nothing. I even tried plugging in an external optical DVD drive and booting from there. Same problem, so it's not the optical drive.

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Where did you get the install dvd from ?

Did you create it yourself ?

I've tried both the original retail DVD, as well as an SP1 disc that I created myself from a download. I've used both several times in the past, so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem.

Try a new ISO from here:
Download Windows 7 Disc Images (ISO Files)
using the sticker on your PC

His oem sticker key will not work with that site, but if he has his retail key, that should work.

Thanks for the response, but if neither the original retail disc, nor the ISO DVD I have works, both of which work fine on other systems, then then would this help? It seems obvious that this is not a problem with the installation media.

I have a desktop PC and a laptop and both stickers work on that site or did up to a couple of months ago!

You are lucky then, only system builder keys or retail keys should work with that site, if you try an oem key it will tell you to contact the pc manufacturer to obtain recovery media.

I would set the Bios to defaults and trey again, if that doesn`t work, maybe you have a bad drive ?

If your discs work fine, then the problem is something else.

I`m assuming you`ve installed 7 on this pc before ?? Or it came with 7 ???

Is this the PC ? There are so many variations.

    Dell Inspiron 620 Tower Computer Intel Core i3 (i3-2120) 3.3GHz 2GB DDR3 250GB HDD

    Please list any hardware differences.
