How do I boot to DVD to install Win7

Excuse my ignorance. I would be obliged if someone would list the precise steps for booting from the installation disc for installing Win7 from the DVD. The forum tutorial states that one should ensure that the DVD drive is set to boot from first in the boot order. Which option in the BIOS menu should I select to do that? (The tutorial states that the DVD drive is selected by default, but I thought the primary HDD would be that. I'm obviously missing something). I'd appreciate any help offered.

Very easy, put your DVD into Drive. Then Boot up. Follow instructions on the screen. If it does not work it is a bit more complicated, but not much. Go to Bios and chose, that Boot is from DVD. Dont know how to get to bios, then check computer manual. With Dell, you tap f12 continually from start of boot up. If you get to Window screen, start again.

Once you are in BIOS, it will be self expanatory. Just look for boot order. On my computer the HD was selected, I changed it to DVD. But go into Bios, you will figure it out. If not, leave BIOS and ask additional questions, here.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

I'm not sure what BIOS you have, but it shouldn't be too hard to navigate through the BIOS, and look at everything, can be under such menu's as "Boot Devices" or "Boot Order", but i'm fairly sure it will be under something with "boot" in it.

And it depends on what PC you own, different PC's may have HDD1 or DVD as 1st boot device.

Do you still have the motherboard or BIOS manual?

Hope so, a search came up with several annoying circular websites with no info on the MOBO or BIOS.

Do you have Phoenix Award BIOS?
If yes, then go to this link and with your chipset info you can D/L the manual.

If this lists your specific BIOS then post it here and we can tell you more info.

hi ive the same problem ive windows 7 ultimate 64bit my operating system is windows xp sp3 32 bit at the moment, so i cant seem to be able to boot from disc as xp wont cofigure this. In any case ive 3 gb of ram ime no computer expert by any means so i am going to read my motherboard manual to be able to boot from disc. i would appreciate any help in doing this would it be best to wipe of the xp first backing up first of all or perhaps boot from disc once i figure this out any help would be appreciated thanks ps my motherboard is asus striker 2 extreme

OP Welcome to seven forums: On some motherboards you can press f8 during startup to get to the boot order and change it by using the up and down arrows on your keyboard like mine. I can also press delete to enter the bios and change the boot order to boot from cd/dvd first.

builder tools welcome to seven forums. You get the system to boot from cd/dvd by using the bios to set the boot order to cd/dvd first in the boot order. As described above. Once it starts the install from the dvd you can partion your drive to have a dual boot system ,XP on one partion and windows seven on the other provided your drive has enough space. Many computers have one-time boot order menus. Look on first BIOS bootup screen. It is often listed as Boot Menu. Mine is Boot order F10. Then you don't have to change any BIOS settings.

To enter BIOS to change boot order is most often F1 or F2, sometimes escape. It will be listed on first boot screen as "Enter Setup F2" or "BIOS settings F1" or some such.

Booting from flash drive will most often be listed as a Hard drive in one-time or BIOS boot order listings, almost never as a USB drive.

brilliant reply i will do as you explain but i cant get the bios up pressed f 12 ill consult my motherboard manual to see if that helps me get it on the pc screen many thanks fabe ill let you no how i get on

When you boot up the PC, do you notice some writing in the bottom of the screen that says something like "For boot menu, press F10?"
You could also just try pressing F2, F8, F9 or F11 for the boot menu.
