How do I boot to DVD to install Win7

Good morning from the Southern Hemisphere.

Thanks everyone. I have selected to Boot from CD, and have enabled Boot from other device, and then saved. On restarting, BIOS goes through its check, and then, at the bottom of the list, announces Boot from CD: (here the cursor just blinks away at me). I tried hitting Enter, and also 'Y', but it just sits awhile before booting into Windows XP, the installed OS (I want to install Win7 to a separate HDD, which I have partitioned ready to go).

According to the cover of the manual, the mobo is Elite Group, model SiS-6612 Gx, and SIW reports the BIOS as Phoenix Technologies, version 6.00 PG, firmware 101.110, BIOS date 05/31/2005, BIOS size 512 KB, BIOS starting segment E000h, DMI version 2.2.

Characteristics: Supports ISA, PCI, plug-and-play, APM. Upgradable (Flash) BIOS. Allows BIOS shadowing. Supports booting from CD-ROM (NO MENTION OF DVD, which , of course, is what I have in the drive's tray). Supports selectable boot. BIOS ROM is socketed. Supports Enhanced Disk Drive specification and other stuff (floppy, etc).

hi guys well to get into my system bios was easy press delete on start up ie after computer beeped once up came the bios wich is phoenix version 1203 asus striker2 extreme acpi bios revsion 1203 bios date 04/02/2009 thanks to the guy who posted about lansweeper by gabiel topala, what an eye opener that programe is.I sure am impressed. In any case i cant get my iso version cd windows 7 x64 ultimate to boot from disc i burned from imgburn in the iso order file. perhaps ime overlooking something silly but i cant seem to install it have 3gb of memory ddr3 so that should be fine any help would be appreciated, its the boot order i think thats going wrong i scroll down to boot from disc enter save changes press f 10 the system boots up but cd dvd isnt in the 1st order it reverts back to how it was

Well, builder tools, I'm sorry to see that you have the same problem that's been driving me nuts, and still is (see my post that began this thread and a subsequent one). Been trying for most of the day to get the m/c to boot to the CD drive, as listed in the BIOS menu, and am now wondering if I've failed because the drive is a DVD drive, with a DVD in its tray. Anyone have any thoughts on that, please?

Are you on the boot tab of the BIOS setup page, accessed by tapping ESC, F1 or F2 (or all three repeatedly) during bootup?

In the BOOT tab there will be a way to change the order so that your DVD drive boots first, followed by the Hard Drive. You will be using the up and down arrows, Enter or other navigation prompts given there. Then you will save your changes using F10 (or whatever is given) to Save and Exit.

If your Win7 DVD still won't boot by hitting any key when prompted at bootup, then try another bootable disk to see if it will boot. If another disk will boot, then your problem is the burn of your DVD. Reburn it using ImgBurn at 4x speed with Verify.

You can also try writing the ISO file to a flash stick using UltraISO-trial "Bootable" tab.

I use my one-time boot menu at F10 to choose my flash to boot from Hard Drives.

Thanks. gregrocker. Yes, I went through the process of shifting the boot order, which I know well, several times, remembering to save the new setting each time, but no go. Interesting what you say about trying another DVD to see if the m/c will boot from that; I'll give it a go in the morning (10 p.m. now here in New Zealand).

Interesting, too, your suggestion that I try booting into Win7 setup from a flash drive, for I saw a similar proposal on the TechRepublic forum. I'll have a go at that, also tomorrow. F10 works for me too. I'll keep you posted, but as for your 'try writing the ISO file to a flash stick', is the ISO file the entire Win7 setup? Thanks again gregrocker.

There are two methods that I have used to boot from a flash stick.

have you tried running the dvd from within whatever operating system you currently have installed ?

if it does run ok just pick custom install and pick the partition you want to install to

Ickymay, that sounds like simplicity itself. I just started the process from within Win XP, my installed OS, just to have a decko, but aborted it pending my backing up some un-backed-up files, which I'll do tomorrow. Just noticed, in Brink's excellent tutorial How to Do a Clean Installation with Windows 7, a warning that, unless the installation is started from DVD as first boot, you don't have the option to install to drives other than to the one on which you are running your current OS. Therein lay my original problem: I cannot boot from either DVD or flash drive.
