    Installing W7 64 over W7 X86

    Hi

Is there a way to install W7 64 over W7 X86 without losing files etc.

If I have to do a clean/upgrade install is it likely I will have a problem
with activation, I have a W7 Laptop with a valid key?

    Thanks

    Hi daniellouwrens,

Unfortunately you cannot just upgrade to 64bit.
Please back-up your personal data to external media, then transfer it back in.

As for activation with >>very<< few exceptions the licence is valid for both.

    Roy

see its a Medion so no licence problem
clean install DO NOT input the key it should auto-activate

    Hi Again,

been looking back over your earlier posts, (BSOD).

Believe the licence currently in use is NOT Medion, most likely retail:).
Please run this tool, copy/paste the ouput
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012

Suspect the COA sticker is quoting Home premium 32bit, looking around Medion dont seem to do a Pro operating system.

You will need the full product key to activate your system, if you do not have it to hand, run the tool from here to get it.

    Hi

thanks for your inputs, I guess I need to explain, this is not my Medion it is a Toshiba Laptop
    I bought from my mate.

I don't ever use OS as supplied on commercially bought units, they contain too much hidden crap,
which was good, that's why I got this one cheap, my mate was sick of how slow etc it was and
    bought a new one.

First thing I did was format the drive and the recovery partition then installed a W7 for OEM version
using the CD Key on the Laptop sticker.

When I went to activate I had to ring up and enter the ten sets of numbers that had come up and
    activation was complete.

Belarc shows the Key as it is on the Laptop sticker.

Below is the result from the MGADiag.exe

    Thanks

    Daniel

    Hi

that looks fine, apart from its not been registered usuall fix install kb971033.

As i said you just cant upgrade it will have to be a clean install
    Have you got 64bit media??
Can get you a download Iso link if not

You may have to phone MS again, unless you kept a record of the security key they gave you.

    Hi

thanks for your help. I would appreciate a link to the Iso, I have everything backed up twice
to external drives so I will not lose data, just have to reinstall the programs.

    Cheers
