How can I clean out a duplicate windows installer?

In the last day or so I performed some windows updates and my computer stopped behaving well. It started saying that the Windows Update service was turned off even though it was running. What I found was a duplicated Windows Installer service and both were off. Manually turning one of them on solved the windows update message. However, I have no idea how there became two of them or how to clean the duplicate out, or which of the two is a duplicate.

SFC /scannow says there are no problems. Suggestions?

    Hi Soho1,

    Intrigueing, not seen that before.
on both services.. Properties.. general - are they both this
    C:\Windows\system32\msiexec.exe /V
If NOT then i would plump for malware

    if they are the same
    Can you go
    Computer >> C >> Windows >> System32 ...msiexec, (its a fair way down)
Are there 2 ?? if so are the properties identical
