    Reinstall Win 7

    Hi,

I needed to reinstall my OS on my Acer Aspire 7738g laptop.
I have done this before and had only minor issues

On Friday I reinstalled it ok and I started to update MS updates and drivers, but something went wrong so I tried all avenues to repair or reinstall? Now I can only get as far as the install window after boot up and if I choose repair it just comes back to window to choose start windows normally or check system? If I choose install it goes through setup windows but then stays for hours on setup is starting screen.

I have tried making sure I have boot correct which seems to work ok. Only thing I have noticed is the version for this laptop states on Acer is V1.13, but in Bios it is V1.12? Should this be updated?
I downloaded a new version of OSI and cleaned a USB to load it, with the MS USB/DVD installer but I cannot get the laptop to recognize it, even when formatted to NTFS?

Is there away to format the HDD to then completely reinstall clean, remembering I cannot get past the black and white screen that says start normally or repair?

Is it possible to upgrade to Win 10 as I have read here that MS do not support Win 7 anymore? I did upgrade it 2 years ago when it launched but reverted to Win 7 as I preferred it at the time.

    TIA Neil

How did you install win 7 (now and on the other occasion)? Did you use the Factory recover wizard or did you do a clean install with a DVD or USB flash disk? Where did you get the installation disk?

Win 7 will have support (updates) till 2020.

Did you do a clean install with a USB/DVD?

    Hi both,
2 years ago I used USB and all ok. This time I had a CD with it copied to and that worked initially at setup but then something went wrong after updates? I have now tried all with CD and USB but with no luck :-( , it runs checks or tries to installs, but just sits there with the spinning wheel!
I cannot now seem to "get into the system" even to erase - delete the OS to be able to start again, so any ideas with this?
I have attached a picture and restore does not find a restore point.

    TIA

Where did you get the installation disk?

Boot from the installation disk, go to repair and launch a CMD window. Type:
    chkdsk c: /f
Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks and / or bad clusters.

    Hi Megahertz07,

    sorry for my late reply.
I have removed the keyboard from the faulty laptop and used it on another Acer I have as a temporary measure to get at least one laptop working, so I will try this soon when I can find a replacement keyboard :-)

I made - copied the CD from a download a couple of years ago, it seemed to work ok on first attempt recently :-)
