Laptop Issue- Can't Install Windows from USB

I've got a HP Pavillion dv7-6b56nr entertainment notebook pc

I work at a cell phone repair shop but we also work on laptops.

We wiped out the operating system and I tried to install windows 7 from a usb drive. But it cannot find any boot files on the usb drive. I have restored other computers through this usb drive in the past, so wondering why this laptop cannot read it. It starts up as if it is restoring from it but it gets stuck when I'm selecting the "drivers to install".

Any ideas?

Do I need to get a hp factory disc? Or would there be a reason why its not working?

My thumb drive is a windows 7 all in one drive, so it has multiple versions of windows 7 and they were made for 64 bit which this computer is, so any ideas that you have would be helpful.

(I am not aware, if there are unique versions of windows that are needed on specific laptops that would help. I have installed windows from a usb but I'm not super techy and haven't done this a lot so any tips would be helpful.

One last thing, is the customer also had windows 8 installed on the computer later. But since all we have is a windows 7 key, and we already accidentally wiped the whole hard drive, we assumed it best to just reinstall windows 7.)

Any ideas?

Edit:

I fixed my own issue.

A required CDDVD device driver is missing, usb installation - Microsoft Community

All I had to do was exit the install, or click cancel and exit. And then move the usb drive to another port and it worked.

You were probably using a USB 3.x port. Win 7 installation disk doesn't have USB 3.x drives. When you changed the USB port you changed to a USB 2.0.

Please mark this thread as solved.

I know you've already fixed it. But for future reference, after you have copied off anything that the customer doesn't want to lose, the very first thing you should do is to try to do a factory rebuild from within Windows. That will put the computer back to its original, new, out-of-the-box condition as far as the software goes.

If that isn't possible, then see if you can create a set of factory rebuild disks from within Windows, and then use those disks to rebuild the computer to its original condition.

Either of these methods will get the customer back in business with the least amount of time and effort on your part.
