dual boot issue

I am trying to install win 7 on a hp laptop running 8.1. I made a partition and tried installing win 7. I keep getting a window saying it won't support gpt visit microsoft website. I am confused about converting (if I need to)on that partition. I don't want to screw up win 8. Any help would be appreciated...thanks

I just checked my drives and they are listed as GPT. Isn't that preferred for win 7?

Welcome to the Forum.

Please edit your profile with ALL your hardware specs. It will help us to help you.
If your disk is EFI-GPT you can install win 7 64 on the partition you have created. Insert the Win 7 64 installation DVD disk and during POST launch the boot menu. There will be two options to boot the Win 7 64 installation DVD disk. Legacy and UEFI mode.
Choose UEFI mode, go to install and choose the partition you have created.
