    Universal Windows 7 Installation Disc

    Good afternoon,

Am I right in saying that once I delete/rename the \Sources\ei.cfg file that the following versions/editions will be available?

    Windows 7 Starter x86
    Windows 7 Home Basic x86
    Windows 7 Home Premium x86
    Windows 7 Professional x86
    Windows 7 Ultimate x86

Windows 7 Starter x64 (NOT AVAILABLE AS 64-bit)
    Windows 7 Home Basic x64
    Windows 7 Home Premium x64
    Windows 7 Professional x64
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure, but I AM sure that you won't have both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows on the same install disk.

If this is true, and you were a computer technician, it would be very handy to only have to carry around one Windows disk for all of your customers, and then install the version that matches their license key.

Yes, the 32 bit media will show
    Windows 7 Starter x86
    Windows 7 Home Basic x86
    Windows 7 Home Premium x86
    Windows 7 Professional x86
    Windows 7 Ultimate x86

The 64 bit media will show
    Windows 7 Home Basic x64
    Windows 7 Home Premium x64
    Windows 7 Professional x64
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64

You could also integrate drivers and updates into the images ( integrating all the updates takes a while ).

Thank you both for the replies, it is appreciated.

Yes it would be handy if the 32-bit and 64-bit could fit onto one disc.
I was just trying to clarify what was available on the 32-bit and 64-bit installation discs.

Thanks again and have a great weekend :) .

Thanks for the information above SIW2 but that does sound complicated, especially not knowing which are the main updates to include and how to do it. I think I read somewhere about slipstreaming to achieve this though.

Probably easier just to integrate drivers. Nvme and mass storage drivers to add support for Skylake, etc is easy enough.
Using something like Dism++ makes it simple.

    Hello:)
Sorry if I kidnapped this thread.
I wonder if you have a guide or want to write an how to do the miracle install USB drive with X86 and X64 and all the updates?
Now I have one x86starter-->Ultimate and one X64basic-->ultimate on separate usb drives.. But I really love the idea with all versions on only one drive with all the security updates.. (up to the monthly updates) It would really make reinstallations easier in the future.
(we have 6 or 7 windows 7 computers in the family)

    1. If all your machines are the same edition, then you need only update that edition in the install.wim file.

    This is one way:
    simplix

    2. If you need to update all the editions:

It takes a long time to update all the images individually.

Quicker to update image 1, then save it 4 times into a newInstall.wim.

Then mount newInstall.wim image 2 and change it to the next highest edition ( HomePremium). Commit the changes and unmount.

Then mount newInstall.wim image 3 and change it to the next highest edition ( Professional). Commit the changes and unmount.
