Do I need to mount this ISO to open it when I do the install, or will it start the install?

You will need to either burn it to a DVD or USB.
Windows 7 has its own built in burner that can burn the ISO to a DVD or for burning to a USB this is very good: Rufus

    I hope this helps!

there are many files that the link takes you to so I downloaded the first file "7601.17514.101119-1850_Update_Sp_Wave1-GRMSP1.1_DVD.iso which is 1.9GB size, then I burned it to DVD and tried to use it to install windows but the system gave an error saying to insert the system disk then hit enter...is this file only good to install SP1 after the windows 7 OS is installed?

    Hi mdl18313,

    What you want is:

    Windows Final > Windows 7 SP1 (Build 7601) > Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 > English (or whatever) > Win7_Ult_SP1_English_x64.iso

File size: 3167.06 MB (3320903680 bytes)

    I hope this helps!

    Hi mdl18313,

    TechBench

Use the drop down boxes and click:

    Windows Final >
    Windows 7 SP1 (Build 7601) >
    Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 >
    English (or whatever) >
    Win7_Ult_SP1_English_x64.iso

    I hope this helps!

i tried again to install windows 7 from the real factory disk and at the end of the install it says that the OS is not compatible with the systems hardware...really? It was working fine before the hard drive died so thats why I purchased a new SSD drive...getting this right is like pulling teeth
