    Windows 7 to Windows 10

    Hello-

Can I still install Windows 10 and activate with my Windows 7 key?...

Original mobo, OEM machine, don't want to do an in-place upgrade,

but rather a clean install on a new drive.

    Thanks.

Officially this option has now ended, the original free upgrade offer finished back in 2016 (July 29, 2016 to be accurate), The assistive technology Offer was made available for quite a while and many took advantage of it that technically did not qualify - This offer has also officially ended In January this year.

If you ever installed a copy of Windows 10 on to the hardware you want to use now and then rolled back or re-installed a previous OS then the Digital Licence should still be present on Microsoft's servers, when asked for a key during install chose I do not have a key and it will automatically activate at the end of the install

Other than this you will now need to purchase a copy of Windows 10 through normal channels from Microsoft or resellers - But even here be very careful only purchase shrink wrapped sealed copies of a Disk with a key, (not visible from outside the package).

Well, Windows 10 is still downloadable from Microsoft site... they analyzed this machine

and determined which one I need, so to speak.

I would imagine I can buy a license key download from MS.

I waited to long, Nigel...have a brand new Samsung 850 PRO I had purchased

to put 10 on and just got sidetracked... figured I could use it later when 7

    reached end of life.

Before I purchase, I think I'll call MS and see if they may make an exception.

I've a very good relationship with them and they've made exceptions for me on other matters.

    We'll see.

    Thanks for your input.

    Regards-

    Tim

Thanks, Mega... so, you are saying that I can go to Microsoft site, download ISO and burn to DVD,

and then install to new SSD and my Windows 7 Professional key will activate, now?...

Thanks for that!...yes, the download tool is still functional at Microsoft Windows 10 site.

The advantage of using the method i suggested in post #6 is you don't have to do an upgrade install and then a clean install.
You just do the clean install directly, that saves a lot of time.
Here is the tutorial i linked in post #6 for this method:
