    New Install

Being an old fart from florida, and a win7 user for years, I recently made a new purchase and am loving it. a brand new custom win7 desktop...its running cool and quiet and everything works just perfectly. just wanted to say thanks again to the membership here as i have visited many times over the years. i have updates shut off, all settings tweaked and tight and feel i am good to go for many years to come. Palemoon 26.5 as it is wonderful for video grabbing....Opera on vpn and private...always run sandboxed and keep up to date images. been running sandboxed portable browsers off of flash drives and i must say they work amazingly well. happy 4th to all and keep win7 alive and well... No, you should not turn automatic updates on, you should have it set to Notify you of Updates but let you decide whether or not to install them.

You do not need every update Microsoft releases, especially Optional updates.

Highlight an update, then Click on More Information on the right hand side of the page, this should give you a description of the update.

Then you decide if you want to install it or not. If you decide not to install it, then just right click on the update and choose to hide it.

To have full control over the MS updates, I have mine set to Never check for updates. This gives me the flexibility of when I want to check and what I want to install!
