HP apparently doesn't like my Win 7

I got in a refurbished HP computer and immediately upgraded it from Win 10 to Win 7 on a new hard drive. The OS is properly installed, keyed and validated from an original 7 Pro 64 bit OEM disk. Nevertheless I get a popup telling me that "this computer is not running genuine Windows." But, of course it is. I've read through and tried everything I find on the internet to resolve this. Nothing works.

My conclusion is that the computer firmware is not recognizing the OS as one provided by HP and causing the popup. Nothing I can do about the firmware. But I'm wondering if there might be somewhere in Win 7 that receives such a message from the computer that I can disable. Any Ideas?

Press windows key and pause/break together.

In the system window it should say "Windows is activated" at the bottom.

If not, try entering your key at an admin command prompt:

In the CMD window, type: slmgr.vbs -ipk <type your product key here>
To activate windows after changing the key, type: slmgr.vbs -ato

I like how you put it, "I upgraded from W10 to W7"

And it was a great idea to preserve the drive with W10, but you should have installed a SSD, not a hard drive.

What is the exact model of the PC ?

Yes Windows 7 is activated and working pefectly except for the popup. I already tried re-entering the key. No change. I have checked for the plug and play bug and it isn't there on my system. I still think it is the hardware at the bottom of this.

HP 6300 micro tower. I bought it refurbished by Joy Systems for $175 shipping included. I suppose I can live with the popup but I would rather not.

Where did you get that license key? If it is OEM and from another computer then you won't be able to use it. Only retail keys can be transferred to another computer.

You say you got the key from an original oem disc, was that key already used ?

And where did the OEM disc come from ? Did it come with another PC ? Did you buy it ?

It is an OEM disc that I bought years ago. It has been used on several PC's but only one at a time over the years. I have three other copies of original OEM Win 7 discs. I used to be an OEM. I repeat - the installation is validated by Microsoft. Thanks for trying. It baffles me too.
