It is fine. If the win10 version of dism is not already present, it will ask if you want to download it.

It is optional, the win7 version of dism can be used instead. You can answer Y or N.

(I thought I had included win10 dism in that version. Perhaps not.)

Er, OK. I'll just click "NO" then. I want little as possible to do with Windows 10. That's why I am battling with this in the first place.

Now I have started with the UPDATERv41A and as soon as I unzip I get this:

Then nothing. Went back to v41 and get the same result.

    Turn off your antivirus.

Extract the zip file again. It didn't extract properly.

Tried both versions again with Antivirus disabled. Same result as before. Now looking for a different solution. Maybe even disabling each undesirable update manually if I can find a definitive list of which are not needed.

Strange. It works fine for everybody else.

Fair enough. Since I can't get 7UPDATERv42/42A to work as it should and I can't find a download source for UpdatePack7R2-17.5.15.exe (654mb updates to may 2017), I was wondering if Integrate7 v2.10 would serve the same end, or at least be understandable to a non-tech person.

    sfc /scannow

I will jump through all the burning hoops I have to if it means I can avoid W10.

Being that you are have errors running SIW2's updater, have you run
    system file checker sfc /scannow
    Logs to C:\Windows\Lobs\CBS
    or
    SFCFix.exe v3.0.2.1 by Nimeiro
    Logs to desktop sfcfix.txt

I've had win10 since the beginning of the bet testing insider program.
Have to get used to it. I still prefer 7 simply because I'm more familiar/comfortable with it.
I'm still on SevenForums mostly assisting win update issues.
You have Win10 tweaking tools, classic shell for one, start menu looks and acts like 7

You can go through the repair install process in a couple hours, DISM++ updates, a few windows updates and your good to go. I always backup my drive to external drive first!
Here's my detailed instructions, video links, etc., from my OneDrive Repair Install/In Place Upgrade.docx
