    in another post, your latest advice is to run the simplix update pack when update hotfixes after Windows 7 installed (1st run downloader UpdatePack7R2+.exe. Then updates and install them.. )
    Fresh W7 Install: Tried using WSUS Offline for Updates but....


    Which way is better?
    In my install, I always go way #1, it's noticed some hotfixes update may fail. (but ISO will be made anyway).
    I am thinking the way#2 shouldn't have any update failures. Which way is better? way#1 or way#2 ?

    I have been trying in vain to create a bootable DVD for a fresh install of W7 Pro. The last time I attempted this was several years ago and my disc doesn't seem to work. My first problem was to find an ISO of W7 Pro but all I could find is W7 Ultimate which is overkill for my usage. To complicate matters I thought it might be good to integrate some stuff on the new bootable disc like the Simplix pack,, etc. I have worn out my welcome on another forum from asking too many newbie questions. Is there a plain language guide anywhere here on how to do any of this? Thanks in advance.

    Depending on whether you need the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Professional SP1, you can download the clean ISO file for it from here.
    The top link is for 32-bit and the bottom link is for 64-bit.

    You are welcome.

    Once you are in possession of the appropriate Windows 7 ISO file, SIW2 and some of the others here can advise you how to integrate USB3 and other drivers into it, and how to make use of Simplix Update7R2 22.12.14 and NET Framework 4.8 add-on so you can create Windows 7 install media which is up to date to December 2022.

    Is post #1 the correct procedure to make a boot/instal disc? There are terms I don't understand but if that is a good starting point I will go from there. I have had a few bad starts and have wasted most of my available blank DVDs.

    1. Extract the 7UPv64.zip directly to the root of the drive, so you have C:\7UPv64 folder.

    Not sure what "root of the drive" means.

    2. If you want to include simplix update pack, put the UpdatePack7R2-date.exe in the C:\7UPv64 folder.

    Where do I find the "C:\7UPv64 folder"?

    3. Copy and paste your windows 7 SP1 installation media to a hard disk or ssd - not to a usb stick.

    I don't have a 7 SP1 installation media. That is what I'm trying to create.

    (Or use ISO-EXTRACT.cmd to extract your windows 7 SP1 iso file to a hard disk or ssd - not to a usb stick.)

    I would like to make a DVD installation disc.

    4. Right click and Run as administrator on the the 7UPDATERv64.cmd

    This instruction goes way over my head.

    Any brave souls willing to have a go at plain language instructions for a beginner?

    If you are installing on the Asus P8Z77-V it is not necessary to integrate anything into the standard ms installation media beforehand.

    You could use the regular ms win7 installation media to install, then add any updates and drivers afterwards.

    If you already have the ms win7 ultimate iso file, you could make it offer all editions by downloading this

    unzip it and run eicfg_remover.exe. It will ask you to browse to the windows 7 iso file.

    After doing that, you can burn the iso file to dvd or extract it to a usb stick using this
    Usb7ice.zip

    after using eicfg_remover all editions will be available to install, so select the edition your license is for

    the latest official ultimate iso is called

    X17-59465.iso
    OR

    I very much appreciate your post. There is a lot there that actually makes sense to me now, and allows me to make a start. My new SSD arrived in the post this morning so I can start fresh with a good set of guidance notes.

    I tried an installation yesterday on my existing drive (64gb) and got stuck when trying to download an antivirus. Windows kept blocking any attempt at downloading anything saying they were coming from an unsigned (?) source. If that happens again with my next installation I will be back with more detailed info.
