What sort of customisation and things are you talking about?
There are utilities, such as DISM++, MSMG ToolKit, NTLite, Win Toolkit etc.
Without knowing exactly what you want to do, we can't really recommend a suitable solution!

    I hope this helps!

I need to to learn those tools. What I want to do is make a simple win 7 disk as simple as possible that would boot and run. XML files have to be verified, bcdboot might be needed. I know the WIMfiles have different versions of windows. win pro or home I would like to make a bootable ISO, usb or dvd.

Do you want to create a Win7 Install USB or run Win7 from USB?
    Install USB
Win7 ISO,TechBench download ultimate version, then use eicfg_removal_utility.zip to make all versions available, then burn to USB with Rufus 3.3, or Rufus 3.3 Portable
    or
    to DVD with ImgBurn

Yes and I am using adk. The SIM tool. But IDK all those components and such and the settings. I get all kinds of errors and SIM says the XML file will not be verified. I guess MS is using Web markup language files now.

Would anyone know where I can get some kind of virtual machine to run on win 7 ultimate that would allow me to run win 10? Or does it not work that way?

SIW2 is the install media person.
Hyper V isn't available, although VMWare Player and Virtualbox have free versions that run on win 7. I have VMWare Workstation Player with is their free version.
You could setup dual boot Win7 and Win10 on your HDD or SSD too!

On the Win XP era I have used nLite and it was very good.
Now there is a nLite version for win7-10. Have never used, so can't say if it's good.
