I'm in the same situation. I was intending to set up my new machine to dual boot W7 and Linux (for the learning experience) but these update gadgets are proving too complicated given the lack of instructions. I might end up just going into Linux alone.

unable to find echo.exe looks unusual.. can u try running clean up script & the, re-run the entire thing? may be re-download will not be required as the script will find the hotfixes, updates etc already within the folder(s).

@wkeller Hy. Currently I work on my Windows 7 SP2.10-ISO-Release and I discovered your script. Nice work.
I am wondering why you delete the unneccessary task not just with deleting the folders in System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows but also in the registry with the plain-, tasks- and tree-strings. I aks this because I want to understand this and learn how to do things to make my own ISOs even better.
Greetings from Switzerland.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials but I notice the updates come as 'optional' which means I have to regularly remember to go the my Windows Update page and check for them. Is there a way perhaps to make these be automatically installed as the 'important' updates are by my PC please?
