Is a damaged HDD causing my re-installing problems?
Hello there,
ASUS X554L Laptop
Windows 7 64 bit
The laptop was running fine until I got an ALERT for Hard Drive possible problems.
So I copied my data.
Then i ran a scandsk and some clusters were damaged and were automatically removed.
However the alert box came back.
So I decided to do a clean install of windows 7 (good idea?)
However on finishing (and on the various re-re-installs i tried subsequently)
the usb's (2 x 2.0 and 1 x 3.0) all were completely unresponsive and not listed anywhere that I could find.
Also the internet drivers were not working.
So I thought I would burn the Chipset from ASUS onto a CD but I only got .601 files...so I got some Driver Manager .exe that I found online (tsk tsk) and tried to load that from the CD.
However that was pretty useless it seems... and even prompted the same Alert that the Hard Disk is in danger.
Finally my question: Am I right in thinking that a new Hard Disk will solve all these problems (the failed USB ports included) or is something else happening too?
Thanks for your time, let me know if anything is unclear, sorry!
