Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool

What is the model of your DELL? You might need extra drivers fror that specific model.

OK, Clearly I am over my depth here.. I down loaded the ISO downloader and launched it. I got the download page.

I noticed Dell under choices on right side, so I checked that, but did not find my Dell Inspiron N4110, so I went back to the Windows 7 category. That listed the Windows 7 64 Home Premium, as well as a version marked COEM. Digging deeper COEM is same as OEM? Since my product key is for Dell OEM do I download the COEM version? Microsoft website recognizes my Key as being OEM (and tells me to contact the OEM, which, since it is Dell, is a whole other adventure, as you might imagine).

After download which ever version, do I then create a bootable USB, as from Create Windows 7 Bootable USB Drive From ISO File & Installation - Softlay and proceed as per that article - boot from USB, run setup.exe ?

Sorry to be such a novice, and I only get 1 chance to do this right as it is my only windows laptop, so no 'do overs'. I just want Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, recognized as authentic, back on my laptop too old to support Windows 10, before support ends for 7 in 2020.

Your key will work with the COEM version and the regular 7 64 Home premium. It doesn't matter which you download.

do I then create a bootable USB
Yes, if you want to boot from usb stick and do a clean install. Rufus is very popular for that. Simplest is probably usb7ice.

Just select your usb stick in the dropdown at the top.

Then click the button that says ISO to browse to the iso you downloaded.

Then click copy iso to usb

Use Rufus to make a boot able USB disk from the iso you downloaded.

    1. During installation:

When you are asked to activate automatically online, untick it and click SKIP. That gives you 30 days before you need to activate.
(You haven't got the DELL network drivers installed yet)

Because you have an oem machine, you probably don't even need that key. You can just run 7oeminstaller instead- this does not need network connection.

the third one on this link

    2. You will need drivers from the Dell site - most likely you won't be able to get online until you have installed the network card drivers. There will also be usb3 drivers and so on. So you will have to download the dell drivers on a machine that has an internet connection - copy them to a usb stick. Then plug that usb stick into your Dell so you can install them.

    3. Then you will need to get a lot of updates. Dism++ is the quickest way, and it warns of updates that contain crap you don't want - like telemetry. We can tell you about that when you have finished 1. and 2. above.

When you have done it - you realise how simple installing windows is.
