You do not have to use a Microsoft ID, [account], but you have to look a little harder than I would like, to find the option for a local account.

Using a Microsoft ID does give one useful advantage. If your OS is assigned to a Microsoft Account and you have a motherboard failure, Microsoft will allow you to replace the motherboard without needing to use a new Key

I think that to run Win 10 with a M$ ID is just another way to allow M$ the track and spy you deeper.

To use a M$ account in Win 10 is an option, not mandatory.

If you don't plan on using Cortana then you will not need a Microsoft Account.

If you select to use Cortana personal assistant, you will need a Microsoft Account, but you no longer need to apply the account system wide. See: How to use Cortana with a local user account in Windows-10 | How to Geek
