Win 10 downloads and installs almost to completion BUT fails due to this CompareExchange128 error. I had a E5450 installed, thought it was reason, put back the Intel Q8400 and changed BIO setting "No-Execute Memory Protect", to disabled. Am trying to see if this works. If not, will disable the BIOS setting for Virtualization. These two suggestions were listed as a fix on MS helpline support.

Does anyone else have any information?

PS: Updated an OLD HP DV6700 dual core processor machine easily to win 10, this quad core machine is newer than that I believe. Thanks for any help.

Hello,

That microprocessor instruction has been available since the Intel Pentium/Pentium D generation of processors. So either the E5450 or the Q8400 should pass the compatibility tests of Windows 10.

Because your system is not passing the compatibility tests, then I would begin to assume that either the BIOS itself, or a BIOS setting is preventing the Installation from recognising the instruction.

The motherboard G41M-ES2H has undergone several revisions. There is Rev 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 revisions avialable. Check which motherboard revision you have, and visit the Gigabyte website for BIOS updates for that revision.

:) Well, changing the " No-Execute Memory Protect " setting in BIOS fixed the ability to install the win 10 upgrade. Problem solved. Now if I can set all the setting I need to to fit my ideal desktop... Thanks for your help!

Win 7 is a much better OS than win 10. Don't understand why you want to downgrade.

With Available Physical Memory 2.75 GB you should install a 32 Bits OS (Win 7 or Win 10).

Windows 10 is better on newer hardware methinks, mainly because the licencing has changed and tied into the hardware.

If memory is the only limitation, then that is okay as can always upgrade later without hurting your current budget.
