I am going for your first suggestion transfer a)
from Kaktussoft as Biohazard was really happy with that in 2013 and it went really smooth.

He did not have to reenter his Key and install extra drivers.

I have a number in the battery it is : 07D 17573141034792.

I also have a product key, a Service tag and a Proof of licence number ready for if it is demanded.
I have a SONY CD - R 700 MB disk. Can I use that ?

Have folloed the thread till the last entree by you on &" th april this year.
I don't understand it all .

Will I encounter problems with Windows Update ?

I ill have to laptops next to each other so I can watch the instructions on the PH and carry them out on the Sony.

I can always system restore when it goes wrong ? This thing is unfortunately in french but I can change that later maybe ?

I am very dyslectic so fingers crossed.

1. Take an image of the win7 installation before you do the transfer as an insurance policy. If necessary, you can restore the image and you are back to where you started. There is almost zero chance you will need to. I have never known anybody have to do that in this scenario.

You can use aomei backupper free ( standard) to create an image. Make a Sytem backup.

The image file will be about half the size of the source and can be stored anywhere - on a hard drive partition, an external drive - even on a usb stick ( if the usb stick is large enough ).

You might need a different different driver for the network card to connect to the internet. You can get it from the sony website - there should be a page of drivers for your model.

Personal message me the service tag and I will have a look.

The Sony site is tricky to navigate. Can you get the model number like this:

How to Find Your Model Number | Sony USA

You can export the vista 3rd party drivers instead ( or as well ). They should work fine for windows 7 if it is the same bit version .

DoubleDriver.zip

click Backup - scan current system - backup now

upload from vista to Windows 7-dd1.jpg

upload from vista to Windows 7-dd2.jpg

The third party drivers are already ticked - you don't need to tick anything, just click Backup Now

upload from vista to Windows 7-dd3.jpg

sony no longer has a support page for your model, because it is old.

That shouldn't be a problem. If you export the vista drivers as explained here they will work for 32 bit windows 7.

I found a brief specification for your sony laptop

It says the wireless card is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. although your exported vista drivers will work, there are also windows 7 drivers for that card here:

SIW 2 Hello,

I think I made the wrong choice and need to do a clean install instead, because I don't want anything of the old owner on this Sony.

Sorry about that, but I think that I understand now that with the first option ( Kaktussoft ) i keep all the old stuff on.

Am I rightly thinking here ?

Oh, poor man, you are gonna regret this

No. If you transfer your windows 7 to the sony, you can delete the vista partition on the sony. Then there won't be any of the previous owner stuff on the sony.

If you prefer to do a clean install, I recommend you export the vista drivers first.
