upload from vista to Windows 7

hello, not been here for a very long time, Ok :

My old laptop (HP) with windows 7 Professional is almost dead. There are wires sticking out the back, cannot open or close anymore.

Now a friend gives me a SONY laptop with windows Vista edition Familiale Premium servP 2 on it.

I have no CD s of either Vista or Windows 7.

Can I somehow via USB or other transfer the windows 7 from the HP to the SONY ?

    Many thanks for any answer,
    Thelma

No, you can't transfer an OS. You need a copy of Win 7 with a legitimate product key. You can get an ISO of the OS online, but you must provide a product Key for it.

I don't think retailers are selling 7 any more. And stay away from Ebay, where the copies are usually illegal. Check over here and see if you qualify for an upgrade to 7.

Yes if the sony meets the minmum hardware requirements for windows 7. You diidn't state the exact model, but it probably does.

    1. If you want to transfer
the hard drive - or clone/image from a different laptop:

    a) You will probably need to adjust to new hardware, which can be done using this boot media:
Make Windows 7 bootable after motherboard swap

    b) Windows 7 might not have all the drivers needed for the sony laptop - so go to sony website first
and download the windows 7 drivers for that model and store them somewhere - for example ausb stick.

    c) You will need to activate windows on the new machine:

    EITHER
    i) Run 7oemistaller

The third program listed at this link

3 Tools to Backup and Restore Windows 7 and Vista OEM Activation License • Raymond.CC

    OR

ii) Use the key on the sticker on your old machine which is probably in the battery compartment

    2. If you want to clean install windows 7
you need the installation media. What language, edition, and bit version do you need?

It can be installed in the normal way from dvd or usb - skip entering the product key during installation. Then after reaching the desktop, use method i) or ii) above to activate.

In both of cases, it is wise to get the drivers from the sony website before installing

pgc-721M isn't much help. You should be able to get the support page with your service tag. That is one way to find any win7 drivers for the model.
