Hi Tharthan,

After it finished those steps, it rebooted, and continued the process with the next step "Transferring files, settings, and programs".

[2] But then, at 72% of the way through that step (the exact same percentage as last time), it didn't go up any more percentage points. It stayed saying, indefinitely, that it had transferred "898275 of 898518". It never moved forward to "898276".

Even after a very long time, it never moved past that point. So I had to shut down the computer, and restore the full system image once again, which took over an hour.
[1] Have you tried it with not selecting the first option [Go online to get the latest updates for installation]? The WU's can be easily downloaded and installed after the installation as completed!

[2] Because you selected the first option, there are some 250+ updates that need to be downloaded and installed. This takes a very long time [possibly a couple of hours or so depending on your computer] as you can appreciate! I would leave it to run overnight if you go ahead again and select the first option!

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will choose to not select the first option, and see what happens. I will report back with what happened, but I have need of my computer for academic purposes tomorrow. As such, I can't mess about too much with it after I try this.

But I will try to get back to you first.

Well, I tried it without selecting to go online to get the latest updates (in other words, I didn't select option 1), but unfortunately it still got stuck at the exact same point as it did the last two attempts: 72% complete, on the step "Transferring files, settings, and programs" (which occurs after it reboots, after it has finished everything before that step).

Any ideas as to what might be causing this hitch?

Do you want me to do this now, or after another attempted repair install?

I can do the former right now, but as mentioned previously I have other matters to attend to later that prevent me from attempting another repair install at the moment.

I will attach the logs that are there right now and attach them to this post.

...

There aren't any filese in C:\Windows\Panther that match those file names, but I found files with those filenames in C:\Windows.

Regarding those files:

setuperr.log is empty, but setupact.log says this:

AudMig: No audio endpoint migration settings found 0x2

...

If the files that you are looking for are ones that would appear on the computer after the unfinished repair install, I would wonder how I would get them. The only thing that I can think of is that I might be able to copy and paste them when I open O&O DiskImage off of the flash drive that I am running it off of when I boot up and need to access it outside of Windows, and it asks me to locate the full disk image.

Perhaps that allows for copy and paste.

I don't have any spare flash drives to which I could burn, say, Lubuntu to so that I could access the things on my C drive if I am unable to access Windows. I am thinking of getting one to do just that, though, so as to allow me to safely browse the Web when Windows 7 support ends.

I think $WINDOWS.~BT is a hidden or system folder. You must set Explorer options to show hidden and system folders.
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Folder Options - View tab.

I already did that (precisely what you just said: going into folder options and setting it to show hidden and system folders), and I couldn't find it.

Could you post explicit instructions?

Again, I'm not sure if you are asking me to look for this when the computer has already failed to do the repair install, or prior to that.

The folder does not exist as it is. Do you want me to attempt a repair install, and then... somehow look to see if such a folder exists then? I'm not sure if I would easily be able to do that, because I'm not sure if the O&O Disk Image drive will be able to view the folder if it is usually a hidden folder.

What do you want me to do?

EDIT: Was this folder impacted during the initial GWX fiasco? If so, I may have deleted it back then.

EDIT2: Could my repair install be being prevented because of the DisableOSUpgrade registry key that I have set to "1", under WindowsUpdate? That key exists and is set to what it is for the purpose of preventing Microsoft from force-upgrading my PC to Windows 10.

Does that key need to be set to "0" for me to successfully complete the repair install?
