Will new programs work better if I upgrade to higher windows?

Hi! Will new programs work better if I upgrade to higher windows? I presently use Windows 7 on both of my computers. That works fine for my HP computer. But lately, it is not working fine for my Lenovo Thinkpad laptop (both of my computers are laptops). The problem I'm having with the Thinkpad one, is that it is no longer able to successfully download a program I use a lot - Audacity. When I tried to download Audacity the other day, I got the error message saying I am missing a necessary dll needed for completing the installation. I guess Audacity may have made some new changes that make it so their program no longer works on my Thinkpad computer. And when I looked to see how to fix that dll problem, the process looked very complex and I didn't feel like going through it. What is the easiest way that I can upgrade my computer, by myself? Thanks!

Have you tried to install a previous [earlier] version to see if that works?

As samuria has pointed out, if Audacity needs .NET Framework to run, it might be that you don't have that particular version of NET Framework installed.

[1] Check which version of .NET Framework is needed in order to be able to run Audacity.

[2] To find out what versions of .NET Framework you already have installed please run NET_Framework_Versions_Installed.bat from here => BATCH PROGRAMS [Standalone] and check it against [1].

There is further information in Post #1.

    I hope this helps!

Hi! Yes I tried checking for best compatibility settings for the Avast program, but it didn't help. I now tried to to do what you said to do in 2. But when I right clicked to say to do it as adminstrator, I saw no options that looked correct to choose, that I knew of. Ok now I'll send you a picture of what I see in Audacity program under files.

[1] I am confused. Why are you talking about Avast, I thought you were trying to resolve the problem regarding Audacity?

[2] You just needed to download my batch script and select Option 2 to run it. Then compare it to what version of .NET Framework is needed to run Audacity!

Avast might be getting in the way -- long ago, kept getting a missing dll, fired Avast finally, no more missing dll file. Now, audacity, we await OP's return of the results of Paul's batchfile that sniffs which NET frameworks are installed. Not at home, so cannot check my audacity for NET requirements.

Hi! Sorry - I was so busy,I got a bit mixed up. I shouldn't have mentioned Avast - as it wasn't the program I was having trouble with. The program I've had trouble downloading - as I said - was Audacity. To let you know what I see listed in the Audacity program, I've taken a printscreen picture of it to show you, which I'll attach to this message. And by the way, I uninstalled the Avast program, as I was considering downloading the Windows 10 system, to see if that might help Audacity to be able to work better. But if it can be made to work with the Windows 7 system it already has - I may just keep it for a while. You tell me what you think. Thanks!

As you have not checked [Googled it!] to see what version of .NET Framework is needed to be able to run Audacity, RolandJS is going to check his when he gets home for you!

It might be worth you running my batch script [below] to find out what versions of .NET Framework you already have installed, as per my post #4 above.
