Installing Win7 or Using Universal Restore - Asus Vivobook

Hi there lovely people of this forum.

I am still using Win7 on my main PC wich is my main sophisticated configuration for my DAW (Music Creation).

Recently, I bought an ASUS VivoBook S15 S530FA and I would like to restore my Win7 config either on the same Win10 SDD or install it on an external drive so I can dual boot).

My main PC is kind of starting to crash so it is very important for me to keep my Win7 configuration intact
so I can keep on working on my VivoBook.
I know that this is possible using Acronis Universal Restore.
Has anyone tried this who can guide me?

You cant transfer settings from a Win 7 to a Win 10 computer.
You have a good desktop PC.
What you mean by "My main PC is kind of starting to crash"?
Is you Crucial m4 128GB the boot disk with Win 7 and programs?

If it is your Drive, you can check that with Seatools
If you create a system image, after you run chkdsk /r from Admin CMD disk image will not copy back sectors, etc, good?, YES
If your mobo is taking a dump CPU or GPU you can stress test those components.
If your RAM is going, you would notice it Kind of REALLY.
Acronis Universal Restore, I wouldn't ever use it. Why take a chance on loosing your data.
Repair Install, In-Place Upgrade? YES
Upgrade to Windows 10 for Free hopefully still, MAYBE, can't hurt.
If you make a full disk image and it don't work, you simply re-image your Drive with your backup on the external and it is AS IT WAS, EVERY BYTE, EVERY BIT, EXACTLY.

Hi there, I am very sorry I went absent for so long, I am now ready to troubleshoot my main computer, (thanks for bringing that onboard)
This is a second generation computer which works flawlessly for my needs except when it randomly shuts down and reboots by itself.
Sometimes I believe the problem has disappeared because there's no shutdown for a day or two, but then it reappears (like now).
I was using RAM which was not really tested with the motherboard but then I bought a tested 8gb ram stick
an the problem disappeared for about 1 week,,but now here I am again.
Ups, PC shutdown again just right now, she is getting a little aggressive!!

Greetings amoretam.
Setting up a dual boot configuration on your new Vivobook is quite straight forward, but getting the old W7 activated on the new machine could be a bit more tricky.

Hi sorry, Crucial m4 128GB is disconnected, that was the storage I had the other Windows installation (dual boot) but it won't boot anymore and I just disconnected it like 6 months ago.
My current Windows installation is in WesternDC WD5000AAKS
(500.1GB, SATA300, 3.5", 7200rpm, NCQ, 16MB Cache)

That's the installation I am really interested in troubleshooting by now.

Win 7 and Win 10 are different OSs. You cant transfer settings from a Win 7 to a Win 10 computer.
You can try to install win 7 on the Vivobook (dual boot), but it isn't a easy task. Win 7 installation disk doesn't have the drivers (SATA, USB and MVMe) required to install on new hardware. You have to add those drivers to the Win 7 installation disk.

As I wrote before, You have a good desktop PC.

Normally shutdowns are related to over heat or hardware problems.
Do you have a temperature monitor?
Open Hardware Monitor
Just extract to C:\Program Files (x86)\HardwareMonitor and run OpenHardwareMonitor.exe with Administrator rights. Under options set "Run on Windows start".
Open your case and check if the heat sink is dust free and if the fan is running normally.

Do a disk check. Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
chkdsk C: /f
It will say your disk is in use and if you want to schedule to next boot = Yes
Reboot and pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks, bad clusters, bad sectors etc.
