OK, folks, and believe me I **DO** appreciate the help. Here is the problem ... I'll do anything you ask me to in order to get this problem solved. HOWEVER, as I am rather ignorant of the process, you have to tell me not only WHAT to do but HOW to do it.
In the particular case at hand, you ask if there is a Windows.old folder. Yes, there are two of them. Windows.old and Windows.old.000 . I have not a CLUE what the difference is between them. Then the statement is made that I can get the activation from it. I have NO IDEA how to do that.
Just for future reference, I have attached four images. Two of them are the disks and a closeup of the product key that came on the jacket that my Windows 7 Professional came in. Two of them are the disks and a closeup of the product key that came on the jacket that I acquired somewhere along the way (??) my WIndows 7 Home Premium came with.
Since I have tried several permutations of this process, I have no idea what keys I used on what machine.
Nor do I completely understand how to find that out. But I'm willing to put in as much time and money (within reason) to get these two machines up and running on 64 bit as necessary.
But for me, please, let's just fight one machine at a time. I stand ready to give you as much information as I can as requested.
THanks,
Jim
