    Question about Windows 10 Installation

    Hello All,

I upgraded my OS from Windows 7 to Windows 10 a few months ago. I downloaded the Windows Installation Tool and the upgrade occurred without any issue. Phew.

My copy of Windows 7 is fully licensed and I have the DVD that I used to install 7. Since I used Microsoft's download tool, I don't have any type of DVD for Windows 10. What if something goes wrong and I need a Windows 10 DVD? Can I create a Windows 10 DVD? If my hard drive failed, how would I reinstall Windows 10? Install 7 and then run the Microsoft download tool?

I am sure this question is pretty naïve but I am a bit old school. I would have issues with Windows 7 and the PC would ask for the Windows 7 DVD.

    Thanks, Bill

It's very simple you can go to media creation tool at any time and download the latest ISO free you don't need a key as it will activate from ms servers there is no point in making a ISO as it will be out date

As you are now on Windows 10, you may want to join our Windows Ten forums Windows 10 Help Forums and ask your questions there. There is no automatic link but you should be able to setup and use your same User Name as here

In answer to your question ...

The microsoft download tool has an option to download an ISO file for installation purposes, this can be used to create a DVD or these days more likely a USB installer, (8GB is normally enough). some installs of windows 10 can now be larger than the capacity of a DVD so that the USB Installer is the recommended route.

Also using a USB Stick means that you can regularly update the installer to the latest version.

You could also look at making an image of you working system at regular intervals, using something like Macrium Reflect Free as this will allow reinstall of your system including all its applications in less than an Hour or so

Thank you both. I found the Windows 10 forum after posting this question.
