I have a Dell Inspiron 1440 with windows vista. I was given the free upgrade to windows7. When I try to install windows 7 it says that my webcam is not compatible and wants to remove it from my system. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a way around it? The laoptop is brand new and I don't want to mess it up. Thanks.
Hi. What you can do is go to the device manager. Right click on the webcam and disable it. Then upgrade to Windows 7.
Once at Windows 7 desktop, re-enable the camera in the device manager and see if it works. If not, try a Windows Update for the driver. If still no good, let me know and I'll have a solution for ya.
Are you using the upgrade assistant dvd that came with the windows 7 upgrade disk?
In my system, it also said this along with a couple others. After you disable and/or unistall those particular apps or devices, pop that dvd back in when you finish your Windows 7 installation. It will then search and install the correct drivers (if Windows 7 didn't already find them) for your laptop. Obviously if that fails you should be able to go back to Dell's support site and download the right ones for your pc.
