msconfig issue I think

I have a dual boot machine w7 & w10. I installed the wrong AMD graphics driver and hosed the w10 installation. There is probably a better way but me having a hard head I won't stop till I really mess it up.

My only option seemed to restore the w10 installation that I incorrectly installed the drivers back to a fresh install loosing all my files. Not a big deal this was my 1st w10 installation and I never used it much.

So when I got done I only booted in to w10. I used the window 7 disc to try to do a startup repair, didn't work. Using the w10 disc repair option to boot my w7 OS. Used msconfig to set mt w7 to the default OS. Now I only get the w7 installation.

I surrender is it one of the other options in msconfig? to get both OS back with my w7 as the default.

  1. Do you have a restore point prior to your HOSING?
  2. Do you have a full disk image prior to your HOSING?
  3. Are both OSs on the same drive, different partitions or separate drives?
  4. If separate drives, does do the both appear in Computer and/or disk management?
  5. Are you aware of Easy BCD for establishing Dual Boot?

There must not have been a restore point. The was my 1st w10 installation and I set up a dual boot if memory serves me both are on the same SSD. Very little was on the installation so I wasn't to concerned. I never used it hence I never even installed graphic drivers. I bought it a few years ago and hated it. I have since upgraded other computers and have learned how to use w10. I did not have an image, I do for all my other installations.

So after installing the w7 drivers by mistake I got the w10 BSD and after trying all the options multiple time the only thing that worked was a reset without files.

So now both are available but to access the non default OS I have go to msconfig and change the default OS. I no longer have the option at the beginning of the startup.

I could almost leave it this way. I had to do what I did this far when I was getting the w10 BSD I always booted w10 and always attempted repairs and they never worked.

I tried different msconfig options just now and it didn't change. Last night I tried a w7 startup repair and that didn't work. I guess I could try that again this time using the w10 disc.

Why are you trying to repair startup when you know/or believe you have an incorrect driver install?
  1. Are both OSs on the same drive, different partitions or separate drives?
  2. If separate drives, do the both appear in Computer and/or disk management?
  3. Are you aware of Easy BCD for establishing Dual Boot?

Did you try to boot Win 10 in safe mode?

it would not let me but its not reversible now. I would like to have the option to choose between the 2 OS at boot.
