windows 7 installation

Have been advised that a clean install of Win7 is the best method to use. However, my discs are labeled as upgrade from Vista with an upgrade assistant to be used. Can clarify for me?

Also I am rather a novice re PCs so will I run into real problems with doing either the upgrade/install?

Thank you for your help.

There are ways to use upgrade media in order to perform a clean install. Reading the tutorials on this forums will help. This one should be of special interest to you: Upgrade Install with Windows 7

If you still want to perform an upgrade install over Vista, I'd advise that you first run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, which will alert you to any potential incompatibilities that may interfere with Windows 7 either during or after installation.

Hi and welcome pdcagirl

If you have a win 7 disk you can do a clean install. Clean install however mean you will have to reinstall your apps. It is a bit of a PITA but makes the system set to "factory" settings. with clean install win 7 should be able to find most/all of you systems drivers and is the best way to go.

If it is too much of a pain you can do an upgrade which does nto require th reinstall. It will bring any vista porblems you have into win 7.

Things to do
Make a backup (just in case)
if your system is older or has unusual hardware try to find the drivers for it before. especially for networking if you dont have another computer

If you are still concerned feel fre to PM me.

Again welcome
