blocking telemtry before or after activation?

    so Im seeing this video
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mk47hXHN6xs

and the link to the guide
How to stop Microsoft from gathering telemetry data from Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 - Super User

I installed w7 but is it better to do all these then activate or after? my biggest worry is connecting to the net and having ms install tons of crap on my pc. especially to move me over to w10

I see some of the things maybe a problem to activate if I implement them. perhaps hosts files and some of the cmd commands.

    whats your opinion?

Another job for Simplix. It will update Windows 7 to May of this year, without all the bad stuff:

Download Simplix UpdatePack 7 - MajorGeeks

I assumed you were asking how to update without getting all the unwanted updates. Activation is a different issue, you can activate any time within 30 days. Simplix scans your system and installs the necessary updates, just like Windows Update, but without the telemetry and other BS.

The superuser tutorial is fine. So, if you just installed W7, do Simplix to update your system. If it's already updated you can use the guide to uninstall the telemetry etc. It's just easier to not install them in the first place.

thanks for the help. should I connect to the net to activate, get off, then do the telemtry blocking, then reconnect and use simplix?

whats the order for telemtry guide/activation/simplix?

My preferred strategy is to activate early in the rebuild process. No sense wasting your time with the rest if the activation process turns out to be a showstopper. So activate first, then make an image backup. With an image backup, you can tinker all you want, while knowing you can revert back to the freshly activated state and proceed anew from there, if necessary.

Simplix is merely a very large file -- multiple updates rolled up in a single file. Download it while online, and when you subsequently proceed to install it, it won't matter whether you're online or offline. (You can even download it ahead of time on another PC, and copy it to the target PC when you're ready to install it.)

You can deal with the telemetry blocking before or after Simplix. It shouldn't matter.

Original Windows 7 came without any telemetry. It was implemented along with some WUpdates.

Single file with all updates - Simplix
I give you a small batch file to uninstall any telemetry installed with WU.
Follow the instructions, specially to set Services - Windows Update - Manual and on WU page set it to Never check.
