RC to Full Version

Hi,

I decided to buy W7 hoping it would run a bit faster than the RC which was about 4 builds old. I ran the disc by going into e:/ then setup.exe was that a mistake am I ment to run it from boot because my PC is very very slow it takes double the time to boot up very unresponsive.

Itunes takes about 20 seconds to load up on a i7 920, 6gb ram I dont think thats rite also I found a directory with all my old files i must of not formatted.

So do I need to deactivate this license to reinstall if so how and do I do it from boot and not from loading setup.exe I dont even remember getting an option to format

You have to boot from the Windows 7 DVD to get the Custom choices for Advanced drive tools to Delete, Create New, and Format.

It sounds like you did an Upgrade install of the RC, which MS warned against since the RC was still beta and contained a ton of monitoring software taken off in the RTM.

No you don't have to do anything other than format over the old one.

MS will not recognize that the old activation is gone until it is communicated to them that another license has occupied that same MAC/hardware config.

Leave the key blank and uncheck the box if prompted for it at first, then go to Computer>Properties after connection to internet and insert your key. If required to do a robocall, it will trade numbers which deactivate the old activation and reactivate the new one. But it will most likely see the same hardware = same key.
